Coordination of SRI test phase

The SRI test phase in Greece is led by the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy with the support of the LIFE project Smart Square.

Other LIFE projects are also carrying out activities in the country: easySRI, SRI-ENACT, SRI2market.

The EU-funded projects signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, aiming to bridge the gap between the theoretical SRI framework and its practical application and support the official SRI test phase.

Timeline of SRI test phase

The test phase started in September 2024 and it is expected to last around 12 months.

Activities carried out during SRI test phase

The test phase of the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is being implemented across a wide range of residential and non-residential buildings, including offices, hospitals, and educational facilities. In total, the pilot assessments cover:

  • 600 residential buildings (Method A) and 2 non-residential pilot sites (Method B) supported by SmartSquare
  • 128 non-residential buildings (Method B) supported by SRI-ENACT
  • 100 residential and non-residential buildings (Methods A, B, or C) supported by easySRI

In Greece, the SRI-ENACT project has driven the pilot assessments, with 13 trained auditors selected from a pool of 42 participants who completed the national SRI training. Selection was based on demonstrated interest and the submission of portfolios showcasing the type, size, and location of candidate buildings.

The Greek SRI cluster is now building on these pilots to:

  • Propose SRI certification schemes leveraging training materials from the projects.
  • Test the interoperability specifications developed by easySRI for unified access to assessment data.
  • Investigate opportunities for SRI-driven renovation strategies, linking them to sustainable financing, energy efficiency, and climate impact reduction.
  • Explore integration of SRI into existing certification schemes, such as EPCs.
  • Support stakeholder engagement through coordinated, cross-project activities.
