- Official test phase not requested
The SRI test phase in Italy is led by the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security with the support of the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA).
In addition, the following LIFE projects are carrying out activities in the country: Smart Square, easySRI, SmarterEPC, tunES.
Timeline of SRI test phase
The test phase was launched in March 2025, and it is expected to last for 12 months.
Activities carried out during the SRI test phase
The test phase aims to verify the practical applicability of the SRI technical framework in the Italian context and to evaluate the need for potential adaptations, such as customising the catalogue of smart-ready services and adjusting the weighting factors. At least 30 SRI assessments have been carried out, covering buildings of different uses and climatic zones, including advanced smart buildings selected as exemplary cases. A special focus has been devoted to non-residential case studies with a rated output of over 290 kW, in line with the forthcoming first obligations. SRI assessments have been conducted by experts from ENEA, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, and other institutions, as well as by professionals specifically trained for this purpose. A dedicated web portal has been developed, serving both as tool to calculate SRI and to centralize data from assessments. The test phase has also explored the possible integration of the SRI with the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).
